Why does everyone call that USA Network glitchy screen thing a screensaver?
I keep seeing people in here post about the old USA Network logo animation and call it a screensaver. It wasn't a screensaver, it was just a station ID that ran between shows. A screensaver kicks in when you leave your TV alone, but that USA thing played on a loop all night even if you were watching live. I remember leaving my TV on around 2am back in 1999 and that purple globe spinning for like 20 minutes straight with no input. Anyone else remember staying up late enough to catch that thing repeat over and over?

People call it a screensaver because the word sounds cooler than "station ID," and half the people posting today were toddlers back then so their memory fills in the blanks. It did the job of a screensaver anyway, it kept the screen from burning in while you slept, so who cares what the network called it.
