TV Guide channel fix that saved my DVR recordings back in 2004

Back in 2004 my DVR kept cutting off the last few minutes of shows on TNT and USA. I tried messing with the padding settings but nothing worked. Then I realized the local cable guide data was off by about 4 minutes compared to the actual broadcast schedule, so I manually shifted my recording times by adjusting the start and end offsets on each series. That simple trick from a message board saved me from missing the endings of every single Law and Order rerun that fall. Has anyone else dealt with guide data mismatches on their old cable boxes?
