My dad's comment about Paul Draper made me rewatch MTV News differently
He was over for dinner last week and saw me watching an old Kurt Loder clip on YouTube. He said, "You know, that guy wasn't a DJ, he was a news anchor. That's why he never cracked jokes." I'd always lumped MTV News in with the rest of the channel's goofiness. But after he said that, I went back and watched the 1994 special on Kurt Cobain and the way Draper handled the report. It's totally different when you see it as straight journalism. Makes me wonder how many other cable shows I misread as a kid because I was too young to get the format. Anyone else had a parent or older sibling reframe a show for you like that?

Man, that's a killer insight... makes you totally rethink how you watched everything back then.
