Why does nobody talk about the old lady in apartment 4B who offered me a full glass of lemonade while I was sweating through a drop ceiling?
She said 'you look like you could use a cold drink, young man' and it honestly made my whole week in this job, so what's the nicest thing a customer has done for you on a tough install?

Honestly that "made your whole week" thing sounds like a low bar. Getting a drink is just basic human decency, not some huge act of kindness. Most customers just watch you suffer while they stay in their AC.

Yeah, I get what you mean @xenawhite. I used to feel the same way, that it's just the bare minimum. But after seeing how many people just ignore service workers, that small act stands out. When basic decency isn't common, it actually does feel huge to the person receiving it. The low bar is the whole point, because so many people can't even clear that. It changes your view when you realize kindness isn't the default anymore.

Wait, they just watch from the AC? That's the part that gets me. @xenawite is right that a drink is basic, but the fact people will sit there in comfort and not even think about it is wild. It shows how far the bare minimum has fallen when simple awareness feels like a gift. The bar is in the basement because we let it get there.
