Thermal camera showed me why a house had cold spots, now I carry one on every job
After 6 months of blaming bad insulation in a Medford split-level, the thermal camera pointed straight at an unsealed boot joint in the attic, so has anyone else used one to catch duct leaks before the customer calls back?
Found the same thing on a ranch house last winter, cold spot in the hallway that nobody could figure out. Camera showed the flex duct had popped off the boot in the crawlspace, so all that heat was just dumping under the floor. Sealed it with mastic and a zip tie, and the room warmed up the same day. Now I scan every duct run before I close up a job, takes ten minutes and saves me a callback every time.
