I finally saw why my neighbor's cable kept going out every time it rained

I was helping him look at his line last week and saw the drop was buried only about two inches deep across his yard. The ground wire was just wrapped around the messenger, not properly bonded. Every time the soil got wet, it would short. I fixed it with a proper ground block and a six-inch trench. How do you guys handle shallow buried drops when you find them?

Wow, it's amazing how many problems come from people just doing things halfway.

Honestly though, sometimes doing things halfway is the smart move. Like, you don't need a perfectly clean room to have friends over, just clear the clutter. Or in a work project, getting a good draft out fast is better than waiting for one perfect thing that's late. Perfection can really slow everything down for not much gain. Maybe it's just me but aiming for 'good enough' often gets the job done without the stress.

Depends on the job... some things you just can't do halfway. A bad cable job like that can be a real safety hazard.
