Cable clips vs zip ties on exterior runs, am I the only one who switched back?
I spent last week on a house in Oak Park and used the good cable clips for the whole exterior run. Then the homeowner watched me and asked why I didn't just use zip ties like the last guy. I told him clips hold the line tighter and look cleaner, but honestly the clips took me twice as long to nail in on that brick. On the next job I tried zip ties with standoff mounts and it went faster, but a gust of wind left the line rattling against the siding. Which do you all prefer for long outdoor drops, and has anyone had clips pull out on vinyl in the heat?
Man, the wind rattle is what gets me every time. With zip ties, even the ones with a screw hole built into the head, you can never get them snug enough because the tie itself has to wrap around the cable and the mount. How much slack are you leaving between clips on those long runs where the wind hit it? I keep mine about 18 inches apart on the straight stuff, tighter on corners, and I'm wondering if that's why I don't get the same rattle issue.
