Warning: caught a clamp slip on a face frame glue up in my Charlotte shop and it almost cost me a $3,200 kitchen
I was gluing up a face frame for a maple cabinet job in my Charlotte shop last month when one of my pipe clamps slid off the stile because I had waxed the jaws a few days before and forgot to wipe them down. The joint popped open about 1/16 inch while it sat overnight, and I only caught it the next morning when I ran my finger along the seam. I broke it apart with a mallet, scraped the old glue, and re-glued it with fresh clamps and a scrap block behind the jaw, and it came out clean. Anyone else wax their clamps and then forget to degrease before a glue up, or am I the only one who pulled that move?
