Spent 4 hours fixing a crooked face frame joint

I had this one upper cabinet door that just would not sit flush. Looked fine from ten feet but up close it was off by maybe 3/16 of an inch. Three times I pulled the door off and shimmed the hinge. Still crooked. Finally checked the face frame itself and found the joint had a tiny glue bead dried inside. Sanded it down flat in five minutes. Door closed perfect. Four hours of my Saturday gone for a dab of glue.

Man, that is painful but so relatable. I had a similar thing with a cabinet door where I kept adjusting the hinges and even swapped out the screws. Turned out the box itself was racked just a hair from the drywall not being flat behind it. Slid a shim behind the box and it clicked right into place, but I had already wasted a whole afternoon on it. Nothing worse than chasing a ghost like that, right?

Ha. Nah, I'd rather waste an afternoon than have a shim staring at me forever.
