Serious question, has anyone else tried that $250 'pro' pocket hole jig from the big tool catalog?

I wasted a full Saturday and about $80 in scrap wood trying to get it to line up perfectly, only to go back to my old $40 model that just works every time.

Honestly, it's just a pocket hole jig. People act like it's a heart surgery tool. So you wasted a Saturday and some scrap wood, that's basically a normal day in the shop. My buddy has that fancy one and still messes up his joints. Sometimes the simple tool is just the right tool.

That price tag is insane for a pocket hole jig. I can't believe they're charging two hundred and fifty bucks for something that needs that much fussing. My cheap one from the hardware store has built a dozen projects without a single misaligned hole. Spending that much should mean it works perfectly right out of the box.

Notice this happens with everything from coffee makers to power tools. Companies sell us on the dream of a perfect, easy result if we just buy the expensive thing. But half the time you're paying for marketing and a fancy box, not a tool that actually works better. Makes you wonder how much we're really buying the product versus the idea of being the kind of person who owns it, right?
