My grandpa always said to hand-sand the final coat before assembly, but my new boss in Denver says it's a waste of time. Who's right?

@maryh96 is right on the money with that custom table story. I learned this the hard way on a dining table set I built last year. Skipped the hand sand on the final coat and ended up with visible swirl marks under the poly that drove me crazy. That boss of yours might be fast but hand sanding those last couple passes with 320 grit makes a real difference, especially on big flat surfaces like table tops. One pass with the grain by hand and your finish will look way more professional.

My buddy skipped that step on a custom table and the client sent it back for a redo.
