I finally gave in and tried that pre-finished plywood thing everyone's been talking about
Old timer at the supply house kept telling me to stop using birch and switch to pre-finished maple ply for face frames. Told him he was crazy until I built a bathroom vanity with it last month. Saved about 4 hours on sanding and finishing, and the edges look cleaner too. Any of you guys made the switch?

Doesn't the pre-finished stuff make glue-ups way harder? I tried it once and had nothing but trouble getting the joints to hold without sanding the finish off anyway.

You ever just scuff the surface where you're gluing, or do you expect the factory coating to bond like bare wood?
