Checked out a local cabinet shop's display in Portland last weekend
They had this one shaker door where the rail and stile join was so tight you couldn't slide a feeler gauge in. Anybody else ever see a joint that clean and just stop to admire it for a second?

Actually those feeler gauges can vary a bit between brands, so it might not be as tight as you think. Still, a clean shaker joint like that is hard to beat, good craftsmanship is getting rarer.

Hmm, I actually disagree a bit with @williams90 on the feeler gauge thing. Idk, maybe it's just the ones I've used, but I've never noticed much difference between brands for basic feeler gauges.

...and honestly that's probably because feeler gauges are basically glorified strips of metal. I've got a set from Harbor Freight that I've been using to gap spark plugs on my lawnmower for like six years now, and it still works fine. The expensive ones probably just come in a nicer case and feel fancier when you're pretending to be a real mechanic.
