Why does nobody talk about the porch drop off rule?

I got burned last month putting a nice ceramic lamp out on my porch for someone who claimed it. They messaged at 8am saying they'd swing by after work, so I left it out there around 3pm. By 6pm someone else took it and the original person was mad at me. Now I only do porch pickups with a set 2 hour window and I put a sign on the item saying 'reserved until 5pm'. that cut my problems way down. Anyone else use a different timing trick that stops people from sniping your stuff?

Wait, so the sign actually worked? Like nobody messed with it after you put that out? I feel like half the people around here can't read or just don't care, so I'm genuinely curious if that's what made the difference or if you just got lucky with the shorter window.
