TIL a lady at the laundromat was right about checking freebie bags before you take them
A regular at the laundromat on 5th told me a few months back to always open a freebie bag and check it before walking off with it. I nodded and figured she was just being nosy about other people's stuff. Then a guy set out two big trash bags marked FREE at the curb near my place, and I grabbed one without looking inside. Halfway home I felt something shift and move down at the bottom, so I set it on the sidewalk and undid the tie. It was full of food wrappers and a rotting half sandwich from who knows when, and I had to toss the whole bag plus wash my hands twice. Now I peek in every bag first, even the ones that look clean and folded. Has anyone else pulled a freebie bag that turned out to be straight trash?
