The library giveaway table taught me a sorting trick that actually works

Last month at the Maplewood library they had a free book and plant swap, and I brought in an old box of paperbacks I was going to throw away. The volunteer running it had this system where she sorted everything into three piles: useful, pretty, and mystery. She said the mystery pile is stuff that someone might want but you can't figure out why, so you just put it out anyway instead of judging it. That stuck with me because I used to only offer things I thought were nice, but half my stuff sat in my trunk for weeks. Now when I post on here, I list the odd stuff too, like that half-used bag of dried lentils or a single curtain panel. It's surprising how many people actually claim the weird items, I gave away a cracked birdbath to a woman who wanted it for a garden planter. Do you sort your giveaways by what you think is worth keeping, or do you just throw everything out there?
