Swapped a broken blender for a working one, but was it fair?

Last Saturday in the Buy Nothing group, I gave away a blender that only worked on high speed, and then picked up one that hummed loud but blended fine. Some people said I got ripped off since mine was newer, but others said a working blender beats a busted one any day. How do you all decide what counts as a fair swap when nothing costs money?
