Got burned paying $45 for a fancy cast iron pot, now I just ask around

Last month I bought a $45 enameled dutch oven at a yard sale and it chipped on the second use, so I'm done wasting cash on stuff that should've been free. I see people giving away perfectly good pots on here all the time and I never checked it first, that's on me. Has anyone else gotten a dud from a paid source when the free swap bins had better gear?

Honestly I used to think you had to pay for decent kitchen stuff, figured free meant broken or gross. But then I snagged a cast iron skillet from a neighbor's curb pile and it's been solid for months, way better than that pot I bought. This post just confirms what I've been slowly learning, free stuff isn't automatically junk, sometimes it's the opposite.
