A rude comment about my free box made me label everything

Someone grabbed my kids old rain boots from the curb pile and then messaged the group saying they were full of sand and basically trash. I felt awful for a day, then I started taping a card on every box saying exactly what's inside, the size, and any flaws. It took maybe 10 extra minutes per drop off at my place near 5th and Main, but now people only grab what fits their needs. Has anyone else had a bad pickup experience that forced you to change how you put stuff out?

Flip this around for a second. Labeling everything is just extra work for you, and honestly it kills the fun of the free pile hunt. Half the joy is digging through a mystery box and finding something weird, like a single roller skate or a half-used candle. Plus, that person who complained about the sand? They got free boots, they can shake them out, it's not a store return policy. Now you're spending 10 minutes being a personal shopper for strangers who mostly just want to grab junk and go. Next thing you know you'll be adding QR codes and a customer service hotline to your curb.
