A $60 food dehydrator that sat in my closet for 2 years before I gave it away
I bought it during that lockdown phase where everyone thought they'd suddenly become a homesteader (you know, like making jerky and dried apples). Used it exactly once. The bananas came out chewy and gross, and the clean-up took forever because of those sticky trays. After that it just collected dust. Finally put it on this group last week and someone actually took it. Has anyone else bought a gadget with big ambitions only to realize you'd rather just buy the finished product at the store?

Once a month? For a dehydrator? What are you making, dried oregano from your windowsill garden? I get the ambition but it's a kitchen appliance not a lifestyle choice. The thing is loud and takes up counter space and then you gotta scrub those stupid trays. Let's be real, most people are better off just buying a bag of trail mix and calling it a day.

Can't believe you let a perfectly good dehydrator sit in a closet for 2 years! I would've used that thing at least once a month.

Oh come on, it's a dehydrator not a kidney. People act like owning one means you're suddenly gonna become some homesteading guru making beef jerky and dried mangoes every weekend. I've had one for years and used it maybe three times.total. The stuff takes forever to dry, it's loud, and half the time the fruit gets all chewy and weird. Plus cleaning those trays is a pain. So yeah, leaving it in a closet for two years sounds pretty reasonable to me.
