That $25 Cast Iron Pan Finally Paid Off After 10 Years

I bought a beat-up Lodge skillet at a garage sale in 2014 for $25. It had rust spots and a chip in the handle, but I figured I could clean it up. Used a wire brush and some vinegar, then seasoned it in the oven a few times. That pan has cooked eggs, steaks, cornbread, and even deep-dish pizza over the years. Last week I dropped it on concrete and it just bounced - no cracks, no nothing. My buddy said I should just buy a new nonstick for $40, but this thing will outlast me. Anyone else got a piece of cookware that just won't quit?

Used to swear by cheap nonstick pans that I'd replace every year. That story about the concrete drop convinced me, I'm keeping my grandma's old cast iron now.

Scrape a little oil on the cast iron after you dry it. Keeps it from rusting. Trust me, saves you a headache later.
