Showerthought: my neighbor says you should always buy the cheapest version first, and I can't decide if that kills the whole point of buying it for life
He told me last week at his 60th birthday that buying cheap first teaches you what you actually want, but I've got a $30 drill from 2019 that's still going and a $200 one that died in a year. Which camp are you in?
Why would cheap first teach you anything when you can just borrow or rent the tool once and see if you even like the work? That $30 drill from 2019 probably came from a brand that used to build things right, not because it was cheap. Price tells you nothing about how long a thing lasts, so the buy cheap then upgrade plan just means you pay twice for the same lesson.
