Showerthought: I was cleaning my cast iron with soap for 6 years until a 70 year old guy at a garage sale in Dallas stopped me
I picked up a skillet at a garage sale in Dallas last Saturday and the guy selling it watched me look at the seasoning. He asked what I clean mine with and I said dish soap and hot water. He just shook his head and said I was slowly killing the layer I spent years building. I looked it up that night and yeah, soap strips the polymerized oil if you use too much or scrub hard. I stripped my 12 inch Lodge down to bare metal and started over with flaxseed oil, 6 rounds in the oven at 500 degrees. So if you have been scrubbing yours with Dawn like I was, how did you fix it?
