Serious question, did the buy it for life crowd always sound this smug or did I just start noticing it at my hardware store in Cincinnati last week

I saw a whole thread about this on Reddit a while back and people were saying the same thing. Guess when you drop 300 bucks on a cast iron pan you gotta tell everyone about it. My uncle's been doing the buy it for life thing for years and he just quietly owns his stuff, so maybe it's a newer crowd thing.
