Realized I was ruining my cast iron skillet for years
had this old lodge pan my grandpa gave me and i was scrubbing it with soap and a metal scrubby every time i used it. just thought thats how you clean stuff, right? then last month my buddy who works at a diner saw me doing it and laughed his ass off. said i was stripping the seasoning every damn time. he showed me how to just use hot water and a stiff brush, then dry it on the stove with a little oil. now it actually cooks eggs without sticking and i feel like an idiot for all those years of fighting with sticky food. anyone else get taught wrong by someone who didnt know better?

Scrubbing with soap is a classic rookie move, we've all been there.

My first time trying to fix a stain I used dish soap and hot water and made it TEN times worse. Soap traps some stains in place if you dont know what you're doing.
