PSA: My grandpa's old cast iron pan is still going strong after 50 years

I was at his place last Sunday helping clean out the garage and he pulled out this beat up skillet he's had since the 70s, no rust just a perfect seasoning from years of bacon and cornbread. He told me he's never used soap on it, just hot water and a stiff brush, and it cooks better than any non-stick I've ever owned. What's the weirdest thing you've learned from a family member about keeping gear alive forever?

Have you ever seen him reseason it, or has he just been cooking on the same crust for five decades straight?

Heard from my buddy Dave who has a cast iron he got from his grandma, never seen him do more than rinse it with water and scrub with salt. Says he just cooks bacon in it every morning and calls it good, pan's probably older than both of us.
