Lost my favorite cast iron skillet after a camping trip and replaced it with a garage sale find
Last summer I took my old 12-inch Lodge up to a campsite near the Russian River and somehow left it on the fire ring when we packed up. Drove two hours home before I realized it was gone. I picked up a beat-up Wagner from a garage sale for $8 last month, spent a weekend scrubbing and reseasoning it, and honestly it cooks better than the one I lost. Has anyone else found a sleeper piece of cookware at a thrift store that became your daily driver?

Scrub that Wagner down with steel wool and give it three thin coats of oil at 450 degrees, you'll be set for life. My buddy @harper_wright is right sometimes the pan finds you after you lose the old one, happened to me with a rusty skillet I found at a flea market. Just make sure you dry it on the stove after every wash or that rust comes back fast.

That Wagner pans from that era have a smoother machined finish than modern Lodge pans. I found a 10-inch Griswold at a Goodwill for $12 a few years back and it's become my go-to for cornbread and searing chicken thighs. The seasoning on those old pans builds up way faster too because the surface isn't rough like the new ones. I bet your $8 find will outlast anything you can buy new today.
