Lost my cool at the hardware store when a returns clerk told me my 5-year-old drill wasn't covered

I brought in a drill that finally gave out after building two decks and a shed. The kid at the returns counter said their 'lifetime warranty' only applies to the original owner with a receipt - who keeps a receipt for 5 years? I have to tape mine inside tool boxes now, has anyone else run into this nonsense?

Ain't that the truth. I've learned the hard way to read every single line before I sign anything, no matter how small or routine it seems. A few years back I almost got locked into a gym membership with a clause that made it basically impossible to cancel without paying six months in advance. Stuff like that hides in the fine print all the time. Now I literally take a picture of the whole document on my phone and zoom in on every sentence. Saves me from a ton of headaches down the road.
