I finally shelved my beloved 10-year-old backpack after a trip to Glacier last August
Everyone raves about Osprey packs lasting forever, but mine started digging into my shoulders on day 3 of the Highline Trail and I had to borrow my buddy's old Jansport for the rest of the trip. Has anyone else had a go-to piece of gear just stop working for you after years of relying on it?

That line about your "beloved 10-year-old backpack" is exactly how I felt about my old trusty hiking boots. Wore them on every trip for like 8 years, then suddenly on a rainy day in Shenandoah my feet were just destroyed (blisters everywhere, couldn't even walk the next day). It's weird how a piece of gear can just betray you like that out of nowhere.

Wait, @the_elliot, did you check the insoles before they gave out?

Wait, EIGHT years? Dude, that's insane. I've had hiking boots die on me after like two seasons if I really push them. I can't believe yours lasted that long before totally falling apart on you.
That rainy day in Shenandoah betrayal though, that's rough. Boots deciding to quit mid-trip is the worst because you're miles from your car and just stuck hobbling. I bet the whole sole separated or something gnarly like that, right?
