Guy at the Boise flea market said my $18 handsaw was sharpened wrong, and he was right
I picked up an old Disston saw for $18 at the Boise flea market last spring and figured a few passes with a file would get it cutting straight. The seller watched me try it on a scrap 2x4, laughed, and said I was pushing the file instead of letting it cut on the pull, so my teeth were all leaning the wrong way. Took me three tries to get the rake right, but now it rips through pine in half the time, so how do you all keep your fleam angles consistent without a fancy jig?

What fleam angle did you settle on for that Disston, 15 degrees or more like 20? I freehand with a triangular file too but my teeth drift once I get past the first inch.
