Found out my grandpa's old cast iron skillet from 1962 was worth $400 on eBay
I was cleaning out his garage and looked it up on a collectors site, never knew a simple pan could hold that kind of value has anyone else run into something like this?

That's a nice find, but honestly it kind of stings a little too. I helped clean out my own granddad's place a few years back and found a similar old skillet, but we just tossed it in a box of stuff for the thrift store without thinking. I bet it was worth something, but we never checked. It's funny how the things we see every day can have a whole other life waiting to be discovered.

Funny you say that, @the_jordan, because I think the tackle box thing is a good point. But what gets me is why we don't stop and think before we toss stuff. Was it just the rush of cleaning out a house, or did nobody in your family ever talk about what was valuable? My aunt threw out a set of hand-painted Christmas ornaments that turned out to be from the 1920s, and we only found out because a neighbor saw them in the trash and asked if he could have them. Did you ever go back and ask the thrift store if that skillet was still there, or is it just one of those things that haunts you?

Friend of mine had the exact same thing happen with his dad's old tackle box. Took it to a garage sale for $20 before he found out it had vintage lures worth hundreds. Makes you wonder what else we've walked past without a second look.
