Bought a $40 leather belt from a department store and it fell apart in 6 months
That cheap belt started cracking and peeling after a few wears. Went to a saddle shop near me and paid $85 for a full grain leather one. Had it for 3 years now and it just looks better with age. Anyone else find that spending more on belts saves you money in the long run?

Watched my buddy go through three cheap belts in the time one good one would've lasted.

The OP saying "just looks better with age" is the big thing right there. My $30 belt from Target looked HORRIBLE after a year. The cheap leather just flakes off and leaves this gross fake shiny layer underneath. I finally bought a good one from a local leatherworker for about the same money. That was 4 years ago and it hasn't even stretched weird or anything. It gets these nice little creases and the color deepens. Meanwhile my buddy is on his third cheap belt in that same time. You really do pay for quality upfront.
