Appreciation post: the $8 pair of wool socks my aunt gave me 3 winters back finally changed my mind on cheap socks
I used to buy the 12 pack of cotton socks at the big box store every fall. Ten bucks, done, who cares. My aunt knits and she gave me one pair of thick wool ones for Christmas three winters ago. I shoved them in a drawer and forgot about them.
Pulled them out last month when we got that cold snap. Wore them to a job site in the morning, feet stayed dry all day even after I stepped in a puddle. Washed them, wore them again two days later. That one pair has outlasted probably 6 packs of the cheap ones by now. Still no holes, still not stretched out.
So I bought 4 more pairs in November. Cost me more than a whole year of the cotton ones but I think I'm done buying socks for a while. Anyone got a brand that holds up past 3 winters? I want to know if I should just keep buying the same thing or try something else.
