Am I the only one who fixed a wobbly cast iron handle with a cut up bike inner tube?
So about a year ago I picked up a 12 inch skillet at a garage sale in Reno for 8 bucks, and the handle had this annoying wiggle where the wood was loose on the tang. I tried tightening the screw, I tried a washer, I even shoved a wooden matchstick in there like some guy on YouTube swore by, and none of it held for more than a week of daily eggs. Then my neighbor Kevin, who bikes everywhere, was tossing a punctured inner tube and I got the bright idea to cut a strip and wrap it under the wood before sliding it back on. That rubber grabbed the metal tang so tight I had to tap the handle on with a rubber mallet, and it has not budged once in 11 months of cooking. No screw, no glue, no rattling, and when I want to take it off I just work a butter knife under the edge. I know it sounds like a hack, but for a pan I use almost every single morning it has been rock solid. Anyone else got a weird fix like this that outlasted the real repair?
