Walk-in cooler failed on a Friday, my backup plan barely held up
Our walk-in compressor died at 4pm last Friday, right before the weekend rush. I had about 900 pounds of primals hanging and no way to keep them cold. I called three rental places in Portland and nobody had a portable unit available until Monday. Ended up borrowing dry ice from a seafood spot across town, about 120 pounds of it, and packed it around the racks every few hours. That got me through Saturday but Sunday morning the temp still creeped to 48 degrees, so I broke down and moved the whole order to a buddy's locker at his shop. Has anyone else had to scramble like this, and do you keep a backup plan for your cooler beyond a basic alarm system?
Man, that dry ice shuffle sounds like a nightmare and I bet the seafood guy saved your whole weekend. The real gap in most backup plans is that nobody lines up a second spot ahead of time, they just trust the alarm to buy them hours they don't actually have. Did your buddy's locker have room for all 900 pounds, or did you have to leave part of the order behind?
