I finally had to process a whole elk for a hunter last Thursday, and the sheer volume was overwhelming.

It took me and two helpers 14 hours straight, but the hunter tipped us $400 cash. Anyone else ever get a massive single order that just dominates your whole week?

Man, that sounds like a crazy amount of work! My buddy who runs a small butcher shop had a similar thing happen last year. A farmer brought in a whole bison he'd raised, and they were just buried in meat for three days straight. He said the freezer looked like a wall of red, and they were all dreaming about steaks. That tip is awesome though, definitely makes the long haul feel worth it.

My uncle runs a small smokehouse and got a whole wild boar order once that took over his whole shop for a week. It's wild how much space just one animal can take up. That bison story from @logan_owens14 reminds me of that, just mountains of meat everywhere. Makes that 14 hour elk day sound almost normal, but a 400 dollar tip is a serious game changer for a job that big.

Yeah, the "mountains of meat" line really hits home. I used to think those big game orders were a quick payday until I helped a friend break down a moose. The sheer volume of work, just moving and cutting for days, changed my mind fast. That tip isn't just extra cash, it's an apology for the chaos.
