Why do so many bullet journal videos skip the part where you mess up the ruler?

I was setting up my March spread and tried to draw a clean monthly calendar grid. My ruler slipped on the smooth paper, leaving a wobbly line right through the middle of the page. Now my whole left side looks like a kindergartner's art project. Does anyone have a trick to keep rulers from sliding, or do you just accept the chaos?

Three times now I've tried to line up a straight edge and ended up drawing a diagonal line across my habit tracker like it's modern art. I just accepted the chaos and started calling it "character.

People get way too precious about these things honestly. It's a habit tracker not a museum piece. If a diagonal line through Monday is enough to ruin your whole system then maybe the system was the problem not your shaky hands. Half the time those things end up abandoned by February anyway. You probably look back at that wonky line in a month and laugh at how much it bugged you.
