Tried to be fancy with a washi tape border and ended up taping my whole journal shut by accident

I was at my desk at 11PM trying to make a weekly spread look cute for once... grabbed a roll of that decorative tape I never use, went around the edges, and somehow the thing got twisted and wrapped around the entire notebook. Took me 20 minutes to peel it off without ripping the pages. Has anyone else had a washi tape disaster or is it just me?

Was the tape one of those really sticky ones or did it just get tangled up on its own somehow?

Hold on, I gotta push back on this a little. Actually, I think the opposite might be true, that the tape being super sticky made the problem way worse. I've had this happen before where I used this industrial stuff for a simple fix and it bonded so tight that when I tried to peel it off, the whole roll just collapsed into itself like a sticky spring. The cheaper, less sticky tape usually peels off easier without getting into a tangled mess, at least in my experience. So maybe it's the strong stuff that's the real culprit here, not the weak stuff getting tangled because it's loose.
