The way people color code their monthly spreads is kind of missing the point

Honestly I see so many layouts with 8 different highlighters for categories like 'work' and 'personal' but half the time you can't even tell what's urgent versus just a reminder. I switched to just using a red dot for deadlines and a black pen for everything else last month and my brain stops glitching when I look at the page. Anyone else find that less color actually makes the system work better?

People overcomplicate everything just to feel productive instead of actually being productive.

So @lilycraig, what's the line between being thorough and just wasting time? I've seen people turn a simple task into a whole project just so they can feel busy. How do you know when you're actually being productive versus just spinning your wheels?

Three notebooks deep into my planner obsession I finally realized @blair626 basically nailed it. I spent an hour trying to decide if 'groceries' should be green or yellow and my roommate just laughed at me. Writing everything in plain black ink with a single red star for deadlines cut my reading time in half and I stopped ignoring the important stuff hidden under a rainbow. So yeah, lilycraig is right on the money there.
