Swapped my monthly two-page spread for a rolling weekly and now I actually know what's happening this week
Had to pick between the traditional monthly layout and a rolling weekly because my old system made me flip back and forth too much, so I went with the rolling weekly and after 2 weeks I'm not constantly losing track of appointments.

The rolling weekly is actually great but you got one thing mixed up here. A traditional monthly layout is the one page per month style, not a two page spread. Most monthly calendars are a single page showing the whole month, while a two page spread is usually a weekly layout that shows Monday through Sunday across two pages. So if you swapped from a two page monthly to a rolling weekly, you might have actually been using a weekly layout before and just didn't realize it lol. Rolling weeklies are nice though because they let you carry over unfinished tasks to the next week instead of starting fresh every Monday. I tried one for about three months and it helped me stop losing track of stuff too, but I ended up going back to a basic monthly because I missed seeing the whole month at once.

You mentioned missing seeing the whole month at once, and that's actually the main reason I've stuck with my rolling weekly for so long (well, that and not losing tasks). I get around it by keeping a little month-at-a-glance sticky note on the front page of my planner, just a quick reference for appointments and deadlines. It gives me the best of both worlds - the big picture without giving up the carryover feature that actually helps me not drop the ball on stuff. Plus, it's way easier to update or draw a new one than flipping back to a monthly spread every time I need to plan ahead. Made that mistake last year and wasted so much time hunting for the right page.
