Totally get where @emery879 is coming from, a $12 fix feels good. But for me, plumbing is one of those things where one small mistake can cost way more than $150 to fix later. Sometimes it's worth paying just to not have to worry about it.

Ugh, nothing beats a pro doing it right the first time and saving you the hassle of a flood or broken pipe. Your time and peace of mind are worth more than $150.

Respect the pro angle but gotta push back a little. My brother in law is a plumber and he floods basements on the regular cause he's always in a rush. I fixed my own sink with a youtube video and a $12 part from the hardware store, took me two afternoons but I learned something and didn't have to wait a week for someone to show up. Sometimes the pros mess up just as bad as a DIYer, especially if they're the cheapest guy on Craigslist. Peace of mind is nice but $150 for a simple job is a lot when you can do it yourself with some patience and basic tools.
