Warning: my grocery spreadsheet took 6 hours to actually start working

I built this whole thing in Google Sheets to track every dollar I spend on food, formulas and all, and it kept showing me wrong totals for almost two weeks before I figured out I had a hidden row messing up the sum. Spent 6 hours on a Saturday redoing it from scratch at my kitchen table in Boise, and I still don't fully trust the numbers. How do you all sanity check your budget sheets so you don't chase ghosts like this?
