TIL my neighbor literally tracks every dollar in a notebook and it's wild

So I'm chatting with this guy Dave at my building's laundry room last weekend, and he pulls out this beat up spiral notebook with columns everywhere. He's logged every single purchase for the last 4 years down to the quarter, including a $0.50 gum he bought at a 7-Eleven in 2021. I asked if he ever felt crazy doing it, and he just shrugged and said 'knowing where my money went keeps me from wondering where it went.' Has anyone else met someone with a system that intense? I'm half tempted to try it for a month.

My uncle once color-coded his receipts by mood and then lost the whole binder in a move.

oh man @karen_hart, that reminds me of my friend Dave who tried to organize his books by the color of the cover. He spent a whole weekend on it and then his cat knocked the whole shelf over. never did find the system again.

Did the color-coding system actually differentiate between "frustrated" and "annoyed" or did he just lump them together, @karen_hart?
