The old lady at church told me her secret to keeping grocery bills under $60 a week
She said she plans every meal around whatever protein is on sale that week and then builds the rest from the dry goods she stocks up on when they hit rock bottom, but I wonder how many of you actually follow that strictly or if you just wing it like I do?

Did your friend ever actually try it or did they just say they would and then forget? Mine stocked up on clearance rice once and ended up eating the same chicken and bean bowls for two weeks straight before giving up.

Respectfully @oscarb71, I gotta push back a little on the chicken and bean bowl struggle. My buddy actually committed hard to it for three months and he didn't get bored because he rotated different proteins and sauces each week. He kept a stash of clearance chicken thighs and mixed in whatever veggies were marked down, so it never felt like the same meal twice. Have you ever tried freezing prepped portions in different sauces to break up the monotony?
