The day I realized I was stocking my freezer all wrong
So for like two years I was doing this thing where I'd buy bulk chicken thighs and ground beef on sale and just throw them in the freezer in their original packages. Then last month I needed some ground beef for tacos and pulled out a pack that was dated 8 months ago. I defrosted it and the smell hit me like a wall - it was totally freezer burned. I lost like $15 worth of meat that day. My neighbor saw me tossing it in the trash and asked what happened. She laughed and showed me her system - she vacuum seals everything with a $30 sealer she got at Target. Now I spend 20 minutes on Sunday portioning and sealing stuff and nothing has gone bad since. Has anyone else had a rude awakening about how they were storing food wrong?

My vacuum sealer is currently holding a bag of chili from 2022 that I'm too scared to open.
