Rant: I was wrong about cash envelopes, my sister in Boise proved it in one trip
I swore cash envelopes were for people who couldn't control a debit card, so I kept swiping and "tracking" everything in an app for about 2 years. Then my sister in Boise visited and pulled $300 in twenties out for her grocery week while I put the same $300 on my card and hit $388 by Sunday. Seeing the actual bills shrink in her wallet hit me way harder than any pie chart ever did. I switched to $250 cash for groceries last month and came in at $241, first time under budget since I started keeping track. Anyone else run cash for just one category, or do you go all in on the whole budget?
