My neighbor Bill kept insisting I switch to a cash envelope system

Told me it was the only way to actually see where my money was going, and three months later I'm $600 under budget on groceries alone. Anyone else have a friend whose advice you ignored forever before finally trying it and it working?

Oh man, I was the same way with my mom's budgeting advice - turns out she was right and I was just bad at math! Three months in and my wallet is actually heavier at the end of the month instead of lighter.

Did your mom give you one of those envelope systems too? I swear I laughed at mine for years until I finally tried it and realized she had been right all along. Now I actually get annoyed when I have to dig into my savings for something, which is a weird feeling but I'll take it.
