My cash envelope system saved me $150. Is it outdated compared to apps?

I saved $150 in three months by using cash envelopes for groceries. My brother uses a budgeting app and finds it easier. What's your opinion on which method works better?

Stick with whatever makes you actually think about the money. The envelope thing forces a physical limit, which apps can't really do because you can just ignore a notification. Maybe it's just me, but seeing the cash run out hits different than watching a number go down.

Wasn't there a psychology article about cash actually hurting more to spend?

Yeah that physical feeling is totally different, right? Like when the grocery envelope goes flat and you have to really stop, it hits you in a way a low number on a screen just doesn't. Apps are great for tracking but they don't have that... I dunno, that gut check. If the envelope system got you saving, it's clearly not outdated for you. Whatever makes the money feel real is the winner.
