My $200 grocery budget got cut in half after I started meal planning on Sunday afternoons

I used to just grab stuff at Food Lion whenever I felt hungry. Last month I tried sitting down with a notebook every Sunday and writing out dinners for the week. It took about 30 minutes and I saved $110 on groceries that first week. Now I check what's in my pantry before I buy anything. Has anyone else found a specific day or time that works best for planning?

Oh man, "I used to just grab stuff at Food Lion whenever I felt hungry" is basically my life story before I got my act together. I tried the Sunday planning thing too, and yeah it worked, but honestly I found more success doing it on Thursday nights when I'm already kindof dreading the weekend. Something about procrastinating on chores makes me hyper-focused on saving money. Plus by Thursday my fridge is basically empty so I can see exactly what I actually need without having to dig through three weeks of expired yogurt. I bet you also saved like 40 bucks just from not buying random bags of chips and dips every time you walked past aisle four.

Wait, but doesn't planning ahead kinda take the fun out of spontaneous cooking?
