Found a surprising stat on grocery store markups yesterday
I was reading an article from Consumer Reports while waiting for my daughter at the dentist. Turns out, pre-cut vegetables can be marked up as much as 40% compared to whole ones. A bag of pre-cut broccoli florets at my local Hannaford was $3.49 for 12 ounces, but a whole head of broccoli was $1.49. Has anyone else noticed this kind of difference with other produce items?

Ha, I guess you're paying for the luxury of not having to wash a cutting board. I always figured the "convenience tax" was bad, but 40% is just insulting. Guess I'll stick to hacking at my own broccoli like a caveman.

One time I paid extra for pre-sliced mushrooms and half the bag was just stems.

Man, you're absolutely right, 40% is just robbery for some pre-cut veggies. I felt so ripped off the last time I bought a bag of chopped onions, they were half rotten by the next day anyway. I'm with you, hacking away like a caveman feels way better than getting taken for a ride like that.
